The Board of Christian
Education shall be responsible for the Christian Education of people of all
ages. They shall maintain a regular Church School for younger children;
conduct a Youth Ministry, including a confirmation class and a program of youth
activities; present opportunities for adult education; and supervise the
maintenance of the Library Resource Center.
The curriculum
selected for the children's C.E. this year has been "Seasons of the Spirit."
This has provided an open and accepting atmosphere for a variety of biblical
understandings of the church and its mission to the world.
The Nursery ("Kids'
Corner") is in the care of Sarah Downing, a very capable care-giver to 5- and
under children (including her own three youngsters).
The Board meets the
first Tuesday of each month at 7:00 PM.

C.E. Board Annual Report of May 20, 2007
The 2006— 2007
Christian Education Program year was exciting, busy, and successful!
Summer Sunday School was
taught by many dedicated volunteers throughout June, July, and August. The
first Vacation Bible School held at First Congregational Church in many years
was held July 24 — 27. We co-hosted "Jerusalem Marketplace" with American
Lutheran Church and Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church. A total of 50
children from preschool age through the 5th grade experienced Jerusalem through
music, drama, crafts, baking, games, and Synagogue School. (Look for "No
Wonder They Call Him Savior" Vacation Bible School June 11 — 15, 2007!) We
are making a difference in our community through VBS!
The adult series of Science &
Faith came to a close with the June program "A Case for Intelligent Design."
The "Living the Questions" Class began meeting in July and continued for twelve
sessions, with Chuck Holmgren as the facilitator.
Two of our children attended
summer camp at LaForet supported by scholarship monies. They were very
grateful! This is money well spent!
Our children participated in
the Christian Education Kick-Off Sunday, September 10th Morning Service by
reading scriptures and leading the worship. Four children received their Bibles.
Bob Peterson taught a weekly adult Sunday School class beginning in September
through December.
Several 4th Sunday Special Programs
were presented this year: Issues Related to Immigration, Financial Figures and
Keeping Your Checkbook in Check, and Wild Horses of the Little Bookcliffs Range.
A more convenient time for this program has breathed new life into it! On March
25th, Marty Felix’s presentation about the Mustangs was attended by 78 people!
The new time is 11:30 AM, following worship. Eighteen visitors joined us for
this particular program of high interest.
Two Women’s Retreats were held
at The Sister’s of Whitewater Community, "Holydays or Holidays" in November and
"The Lenten Scriptures" in March. A new class facilitated by Chuck
Holmgren began in January, "Saving Jesus". The children collected money
for the "Souper Bowl of Caring" on February 4th. The funds were given to
the Homeward Bound Shelter. During Lent, a mid-week Lenten Program was
held on Wednesdays — "Quiet Time." Chuck Holmgren shepherded this series.
In May, graduates were honored in the worship service on May 20. Gifts
were given from the Christian Education Board.
Though we were small in
number during the year, we accomplished much for the children and adults of
First Congregational Church, United Church of Christ. We look forward to
great events and learning in the 2007- 2008 program year.
Respectfully,
Anne Djokic
