First Congregational United Church of Christ - Grand Junction, CO

          The Church Growth Board shall be responsible for fostering a welcoming Christian environment, making our church know to people in the community, and facilitating continuous church growth.

          Efforts of this board include affording every opportunity for members of the community, particularly newcomers, to become acquainted with our church and its unique setting for spiritual growth and Christian fellowship. 

          The Growth Board is a very lively and active board. We handle church happenings such as identifying Sunday Worship Greeters, arranging for advertising and publicity, making doorstep visits to those who have visited our church (new visitor tracking), name tags,  and the new member breakfasts.

The Board meets the second Sunday of each month after worship service.

Annual Report of Church Growth Board May 23, 2010

The major activities for Growth Board this year include:

     1. Participation at the Equality Colorado picnic.  This was done in partnership with M and O. We had a great time talking to people about FCCUCC.

     2. Trunk or Treat is becoming an annual event, copied by many but not done as well as our people do it. Great participation and a good turn-out. Thanks to all who participated.

     3. Adverting is primarily in the newspaper and phone book.  We also want to give a great big thank you to Jim Lauer and his work on the website. As we talk to people who visit us, an overwhelming majority say they learned about us from that website.  If you haven’t looked at it lately, check it out at www.firstcongregational-ucc.org and also check out www.ucc.org to see the national site.

     4. One interesting project that came about during a discussion at a board meeting was the cross that appeared at the labyrinth during Lent. It was discussed at the Growth Board, presented to the Council and within a week was built, installed and draped. This is a great example of the cooperation that exists within our church. Thanks to all who made this project work.

     We look forward to another great year. And remember, the best way to get more people in the door is for YOU to invite your family, friends and neighbors. We have a great church. All visitors are impressed by how friendly we are and how much they enjoy the worship. So spread the word.
