The Board of Deacons shall be concerned with all matters concerning the spiritual life of the church.  Working with the Minister and other boards and committees of the church, this Board shall handle the details of regular and special worship services;  the shepherding of those in need of special care;  and the promotion of spiritual growth within the congregation.

          As such the Deacons oversee several committees in the church.  These include chairing or arranging for the following:

          In addition, the Board of Deacons' responsibilities include:

          Receiving applications for Associate Members of the church and making recommendations with the minister for such membership, as noted in Article IV (Membership) of the Constitution; and,
          Reviewing in November each year a list of those members who, for a period of one (1) year have not attended the church's worship and not contributed to its support, and after considerations of circumstances and in consultation with the minister and the financial assistant, recommending at the November meeting of the Church Council the transfer of these members from the active to the inactive membership. Such inactive members may be reinstated as active members upon the recommendation of the Board and approval by the Church Council. [ByLaws Amended 5-22-05]

The Board of Deacons meets the first Tuesday of each month at 7:00 p.m.

Annual Report of Board of Deacons May 20, 2007

         Once again the Deacons wish to thank all members of this community of faith for being so willing to volunteer in supporting the spiritual growth of this church.  We are always so grateful for your willingness to say yes when asked to be an usher, a liturgist or communion server or to serve in any other area of need.

         This year we purchased new pew Bibles which more closely match the liturgy readings.  We received some donations to help pay for these but most of the cost came from our budget.  We once again helped to plan and carry out the special services for Christmas and Lent adding a Morning for Meditation component this year.  The music ministry is an essential part of our worship and we are very appreciative of the efforts of Bob Boberg, Martha Jones and Karen Caton to add this aspect of our worship.  Thanks to volunteers from Deacons membership has continued to be tracked and our membership records are now more realistic.  Visitors are referred to Growth Board for contact.  With the CE board we helped to organize Women’s Retreats which were highly successful. 

         The current members of Deacons — Carolyn Ramsey, Carolyn Holmgren, Annie Albrethesen, Patsy May, Arlyss Indergaard, Ellen Bradley and Virginia Gibson — make this a most gratifying board on which to serve.  We continue to look forward to ways to serve this church in all matters of worship and spiritual growth.
