Trustees

The Board of Trustees shall be responsible for all matters concerning the financial aspects of the church, its property and its operation.  To this end the Board shall, each fall, prepare a budget for the ensuing year and appoint a Stewardship Committee to raise the necessary funds.  The presiding officers of this committee shall be members of the Board of Trustees.

After receiving individual proposed budgets from all Boards and Committees, the Trustees prepare and submit an annual budget to the Church Council.  The Council then refers an approved proposed budget to the congregation which votes upon it during the Annual Meeting in January.

The Board of Trustees meets the 1st Tuesday of each month at 7 PM.

Annual Report of Board of Trustees May 20, 2007

Fiscal Year 2006 was an excellent year for FCUCC.  In 2004 it was agreed that we would work hard on making the CE Building a decent source of revenue to us by creating good space with corresponding good rental rates and lease agreements.  Since there is no elevator in the building, renting the second floor was not an option.  All efforts were expended to rent the entire downstairs and use the upstairs for Sunday school and some related charitable uses.  The downstairs is now leased to Mesa Developmental Services at a rate of $6.50 a sq. ft.  They have a  3- year lease with an escalation factor on the rental rate, and an option to renew.  We also have a small lease with Adoption Options at about the same rate.  We also reached out to the American Lutheran Church who rented use of our facility for 2006, and they still have some small rental use.  The combination of all these leases, plus a solid Pledge commitment by the Congregation created the best surplus we’ve had in many years.  This enabled us to provide funds for Pastor Sharyl’s sabbatical and to hire an Assistant Minister, as well as run the Church and fix many little things in our buildings.  These revenues will continue to solidify the financial picture which will allow us to keep our physical plant in great shape and grow our Membership.

Other events of note involving our Board are the roles of some subcommittee’s, which are doing great stuff.  The Landscape Committee has done a wonderful job on the front entrance area and have helped monitor the whole outside for wellness.  We have upgraded the sprinklers to function properly, and used a couple volunteer days to keep things clean and pruned--thanks much to Betty Hall and Joanne Malone.  The Endowment Committee, chaired ably by Lee Allen, has done some great work on setting up rules and accounts for the General Endowment Fund, which can now grow under their investment strategy.  They have also created the Legacy Circle, a method for our congregation to remember FCUCC after death.  We will be hearing a great deal about this soon--Special thanks to Jack Roberts and Dave Hoefer for their extra efforts there.

Finally, we look towards finishing fiscal 2007 in reasonable financial shape, with prospects for continued solid performance into the future.  We will have done some major improvements needed by the end of the year, and have been able to pay for those within the budget.  Our Board members have been great at stepping up for work days and other little tasks. Thanks to them all.

Respectfully,
Brian P Mahoney Chairman
