Phone Buddies
A group of
women in our church want to strengthen friendships, and especially look
out for and support those who live alone.
If you’re interested in
being part of this phone-tree, please contact Annie Albrethsen at 242-9558
or Connie Stemsrud at 255-9985. And, if you’d like to make new friends,
look for the “Phone Buddies” sign on a table during coffee hour—whoever is
interested that Sunday will gather and go out to lunch together.

Women’s
Fellowship
The Women’s Fellowship Christmas luncheon will be held at noon on
Thursday, December 13th. Barb Harvey’s class, The Pied Pipers bell ringers
and chorus, will be providing the entertainment this year. We will need to
know how many are attending no later than Monday, December 10th. If you
have not been contacted by December 10th and plan to attend the luncheon,
please call Michelle in the office to RSVP.
We will be collecting
men’s white socks and razors to be donated to the Catholic Day Center for
our Christmas mission project this year. Your donations can be placed in
the large red Christmas sock in the Gathering Space. |
TRUSTEES’
Report
We are well into the autumnal quarter of the
calendar, the time of traditional harvest festivals, the time of
celebrating that we have stored away enough to sustain us through the cold
times ahead. It is also the time when we, as a church, look to our mission
and the financial requirements that will allow us to accomplish that
mission. Soon the Trustees will report out a draft budget for 2008.
We have been active in the last month. Dave
Hoefer has single-handedly installed easy-to-use hinged door stops on all
of our church doors. No more fussing with those frustrating rubber wedge
items.
The decaying wood retaining wall outside the
chapel has been replaced with a permanent block wall. Again Randolph and
Hoefer headed up this project, helped along with several volunteers.
The Trustees approved formation of a committee to
investigate the feasibility of constructing a columbarium on church
property. Some members are enthusiastic about this possibility, though the
over-all support remains uncertain. Since a columbarium is a potential
financial liability in perpetuity our commitment must be considered
carefully.
Although we have standard rates for organizations
who use church facilities, there have been so many exceptions that our
building use rates lack clear consistency. The Trustees have formed a
small group to develop a schedule of rates that would be uniformly
applicable.
Finally, a member talked to the Trustees about
the potential danger of multiple walkers in the sanctuary aisles in the
case of an emergency evacuation. We consider this to be a genuine concern
and ask all members to help ensure that walkers are safely stowed so they
do not constitute a hazard. We also ask members to assist anyone who may
appreciate some aid in getting about.Chuck Burch |
