FALL CLEAN-UP DAY
Saturday, November 3 - 8 AM to 12:30 PM (come whenever you can)
Please put this date on your calendars and come help us put the
gardens to bed for the winter.
And please bring (if you have them) pruning shears, large and small,
leaf rakes, shovels, trowels, wheelbarrows, etc. And don’t forget your
gardening gloves!
We will be mostly raking out the dead leaves and cutting back plants
and spreading mulch.
And - there will be the usual coffee and muffins available early and
during our break.
The Landscape Committee
...and, WARK WORK DAY - NOVEMBER 10
Oops. That should say
Wall Work Day. Another WORK DAY you ask? Yes. This is in addition to the
Fall Cleanup Day November 3. If you can’t make that day, then come join us
for this specific task.
The landscape retaining
wall along the sidewalk south of the chapel will be completed on NOVEMBER
10 (9:00 AM), that is, if enough people come to assist in removing the old
wall and building the new. (This is at least an 8-person job.)
If you haven’t noticed,
the wood retaining wall along the sidewalk has deteriorated. Built by
church members about 20 years ago, age has now taken its toll. What was
nice looking and functional is now an eyesore and will soon rot away. As
with our own home, we have to keep our church home repaired and looking
nice. New styled landscape blocks will replace the old wall.
WORKERS ARE NEEDED TO:
Removed rotted wooded wall and stack for disposal ...Dig back into the
dirt 6-8” for placement of the concrete blocks...Pile the dirt for later
backfilling and removal...Level a footing for the new blocks...Cut some of
the concrete blocks to make corners...Carry and lay new blocks...Remove
and replace irrigation line...
Linda Randolph and David
Hoefer are heading up this project. Please give them two hands.

TRUSTEES’
Report
Recently the Trustees have noted light frost on roofs
and lawns in the early morning. They recognize this frost is not the
genuine article, but merely the visible effect of radiative cooling.
Nevertheless they know that actual frost will come soon enough and after
that winter itself.
We have winterized the swamp coolers and started the
boiler and furnaces. We added improved security hardware to a CE building
door for our Mesa Development Services friends. You may also note that the
cross light is again operational and that all six pushbuttons and pilot
lights on the narthex switch panel work again.
With the onset of frosty weather the Trustees know it’s
time again to dust off the green eyeshades and start peering at financial
spreadsheets – time to do their homework prior to preparing the annual
budget.
The Trustees are familiar with the considerable
pleasure that comes from working together making repairs, doing
maintenance and making decisions – in the end doing a better job than any
of us could do individually. We call on all members and friends to
remember the satisfaction of working together as this year’s stewardship
season begins.Chuck Burch
