TOWER CHIMES
Moderator’s Report
Hello All,
As I reflect on
happenings around us, I never cease to be amazed at the beauty that the
Lord has blessed us with. All I must do is look around at all of the
sights here in this Grand Valley, and it is easy to see that God really
does love each and every one of us. Why else would we have the gorgeous
vistas, fabulous colors and breath-taking sights every day?
Fall is a time for
harvesting all the things that have been planted and to prepare for the
coming of winter and all that is in store for the coming colder months. To
me it is also a time to reap the rewards that are available here at FCUCC.
We are so lucky to have such a great Pastoral staff to lead us and care
for us all.
For me at least, the
knowledge that Sharyl and Dan are “at the controls” makes it is easy to
forget that I have responsibilities to be doing my best to harvest all
that God has prepared for us as well. I hope that by remembering this, it
will be easier to participate in the gathering of all that has been
promised to us by Jesus Christ.
Let the work begin!
Respectfully,
Randy Smith

TRUSTEES’
Report
The Trustees
welcomed the recent one half inch of rain that cleared from our air the
smoke caused by various parts of Utah burning, each in its turn. With our
keen eye for avian affairs, we noted that our summer resident, the Rufous
Hummingbird, has packed up and departed for more clement climes. When our
temperature is no longer fit for a Hummingbird we know it is time to think
about the autumnal servicing of swamp coolers.
That operation will be
easier this year owing to a bit of plumbing we did in the boiler room. Now
we will be able to blow out the water supply to most of the swamp coolers
without opening any line. Other recent non-swamp cooler maintenance
includes replacing a defective switch on the organ and repairing the
kitchen ceiling.
Donna Johnson is leaving as custodian to live and work in Montrose, and
our good wishes go with her. We are pleased to announce that Linda
Randolph will be our new custodian, starting the week of September 24.
At our last meeting the
Trustees reaffirmed that pledge information will be kept confidential by
the Treasurer and the Financial Clerk; they will communicate any
information on the state of pledging only in terms of statistics, such as
the average pledge or total amount pledged.
We have decided not to
pursue building a columbarium owing to a lack of significant interest in
the project.

FALL CLEAN-UP DAY
Saturday, November 3 - 8 AM to 12:30 PM (come whenever you can)
Please put this date on your calendars and come help us put the
gardens to bed for the winter.
And please bring (if you have them) pruning shears, large and small,
leaf rakes, shovels, trowels, wheelbarrows, etc. And don’t forget your
gardening gloves!
We will be mostly raking out the dead leaves and cutting back plants
and spreading mulch.
And - there will be the usual coffee and muffins available early and
during our break.
The Landscape Committee
PS - Linda Randolph will be coordinating the
replacement of the deteriorating wooden retaining wall in front of the
chapel patio. The new wall will use red landscaping blocks that will be
much longer-lasting than the wood.
But - there will be a little less room for plants then, so we are
offering the iris there to anyone who would like to dig some up to plant
at their home. We would like to put in some new plants when the wall is
done that require even less care....The iris is/are available!
