TOWER CHIMES

December Worship
During this season, we’ll be reflecting on
five themes, through the lens of the lectionary:
Dec. 2 – Dan will be preaching on “Waiting and
Watching” – what does it mean for us to wait and watch during this season?
What are we waiting and watching for?
Dec. 9 – I’ll be preaching on “Hoping” – is it even
possible to hope in this day and age of cynicism, doubt, even despair? For
what we might we hope in this season?
Dec. 16 – I’ll be preaching on “Wondering,” beginning
with John the Baptist’s question to Jesus: “Are you the one?” What does that
question mean to us today, and how might we answer?
Dec. 23 – I’ll be preaching on “Homing” – for many of
us, this is the season when we “go home” or spend time “at home” with family
or friends. What does it mean for us to “go home” spiritually as well?
Christmas Eve (Monday, Dec. 24) 8:00 PM – We’ll have a service of Lessons
and Carols; come hear the Christmas Story again, and sing some of the most
beautiful hymns of the church year.
Dec. 30 – “Celebrating” – see the description
elsewhere in this newsletter, about gathering for an Informal Christmas
Celebration Service, complete with breakfast, in Pilgrim Hall! |

CALLING ALL CHRISTMAS CAROLERS (and Chili Cookers!!)
Mark your calendars for Tuesday,
December 11th. This is a great opportunity to share the Christmas spirit
with some of our members who are shut-ins (or sometimes those who just can’t
get to church without great difficulty.)
We will meet at the
church at 6 PM to pass out the itinerary and music. (We usually
carpool and visit 4-6 locations.) Then we will return to the church for a
chili supper and social time. You don’t have to be in choir to participate.
EVERYONE IS WELCOME!
And this is a time when
more is definitely better. We need several folks who would like to show off
their chili, bring corn bread, salad, whatever. Please let Karen Caton
(#245-0193) or Michelle in the office know what you will be bringing so we
know we’ve got all bases covered. Come prepared to sing and have a great
time!! |

See What a Few Willing Hands Can Do for an Old Wall! We
All Thank You! |
If you have not seen it, take a look at
the new landscape wall along the south sidewalk. This is wall adds to the
overall appearance to the outside of our building. What a beautiful change!
With the hard work of seven individuals, the wall is 99% completed. A few
stones remain to be cut. In spring the sprinklers will be reconfigured, the
existing plants and bulbs removed, and low maintenance shrubs will be put in
their place.
Those giving their time
were Linda Randolph, Chuck Burch, Sveto Djokic, Betty Hall, Van Garbin,
Jamie Walker, and David Hoefer. Also involved were Judy Burch who provided
the crew with muffins and Nancy Hoefer who provided lunch. Thanks also to
Virginia Gibson who donated funds for an additional cubic yard of red scoria
(volcanic rock) to go around the gingko tree. Virginia was involved with the
original landscaping and the planting of the tree.
[The whole project cost
less than $500 with money coming from some extra giving to the Building
Campaign.]
