                           Mission and Outreach Board

Grand Valley Catholic Outreach is about two months away from opening 23 brand new apartments for local low-income area residents. Sister Karen Bland (Director of Catholic Outreach) wants to furnish these apartments with items that are new. Each apartment is for one person and accordingly will have a single twin bed.
Items Sister Karen would like donated to furnish units are as follows:
I . Towel set including bath towel, wash cloth, hand towel and bath mat to match
2. Twin bed sheet set with pillow case
3. Set of cookware
4. Set of dishes for 4
5. Set of glasses for 4
6. Flatware set of 4 or 8
7. Mop bucket with mop and cleaning supplies in bucket
Your First Congregational Mission and Outreach board is asking church members to support this effort by choosing items from the above list to purchase from local merchants and leave them in the Gathering Space, and/or leave a cash donation with Michelle which M & 0 can then use to purchase some of these items.
Our goal is not to furnish all the units. Other groups will be joining in this effort.

Grand Valley Homeless

You are invited to attend and participate in a Public Forum to present “The Faces of the Homeless” in Mesa County.
Sponsored by Grand Valley Peace & Justice and G.V. Catholic Outreach, the Forum is intended to bring awareness to the following facts: up to 37% of the homeless in Mesa County are veterans; there are 400 homeless children attending school in Dist. 51, and only 1% of the homeless are street-side “panhandlers,” the remainder are families, youth, elderly and other singles, and mentally disturbed individuals.
You can do something to help lead THE WAY HOME for our neighbors! Attend the Public Forum on Thursday, May 15, 7:00 PM at the Grand Junction City Hall Auditorium, 250 N. 5th Street. Call Karen Sjoberg for more information at 243-0209.

“We must continue to cultivate our own compassion, be present to the homeless with non-judgment, while being worthy, supportive partners providing a safe place where change can take place.”   [from La Puente Newsletter] ======================================
