CROP
Walk
Grand Valley Interfaith Network (GVIN) sponsored the Mesa County’s annual
CROP Walk and our congregation raised a total of $581.
WE WALK BECAUSE THEY WALK.
...AND we also contributed $558 by Sunday October 21st for
NEIGHBORS IN NEED,
but there may be more by month's end! |
New Caregivers’ Support Group
Many of our members and
friends of the church are caring for aging parents or for spouses who have
serious health issues. Caregivers often become exhausted physically,
emotionally, and spiritually -- and truly need to take some time to nurture
themselves. This new support group is to provide spiritual support,
encouragement, and practical resources for all those who are care-giving for
others.
We meet the second and
fourth Fridays of each month at 10:00 AM in the Chapel. Everyone is
welcome--if you’re a caregiver, please join us. Pastor Sharyl |
CHRISTMAS PLANNING
Six people met and
outlined some plans for decorating the church for Christmas. There were some
wonderful ideas but we will need help to put it all together.
We will start putting up
the big sanctuary tree right after church on Nov.25. Many hands will be
needed to untangle branches, lay them out in order and to climb the big
ladder to put it all together. Work will continue through the next week.
Hopefully the tree will be ready for the first Sunday of Advent—December
2nd.
Some of our members may
be out of town for Thanksgiving but could help at other times. We have some
projects that can be started anytime at home. Just contact Nancy Hoefer
(241-3762) or Kay Ragsdale (858-3035) to get an assignment, either for
“Homework” or something to do at the church. |
ALTERNATIVE GIFT FAIR Sunday, November 18th, 9 AM to 2 PM
Come to St. Joseph’s
Parish Hall and choose a gift for that person who “has everything!”
Descriptive books and order forms will also be available in Pilgrim Hall
during Coffee Hour Sundays November 4th & 11th. The Fair is sponsored by the
Grand Junction Peace & Justice committee and our own Mission & Outreach
Board. Our church’s special project is Safe Houses for migant women in
Lebanon. This project provides education, safe housing, and jobs for women
fleeing abusive work conditions. |
DO YOU KNOW?
Do you know that our
church supports and partakes in a recycling program? Do you know that you
too can be a part of this?
Outside the kitchen are 5
blue recycle bins for aluminum, “tin” cans, plastic, glass and paper.
Cardboard can be stacked alongside the containers. These are picked up on a
regular basis. Besides the church staff’s recycling materials, some of our
members bring their recyclables to the bins. It is all a part of being
GREEN. The service has been in place at least 12 years and we pay a monthly
fee for the pick-ups.
If you don’t have enough
recyclables for your home pickup you are welcome to use the church’s
containers. Your bringing a few cans or bottles can make a difference. Make
the extra efforts to recycle. |
