CHRISTIAN EDUCATION NEWS

CHILDREN’S SUNDAY SCHOOL

Mary Wilkie is providing materials to make the children’s learning about our faith both fun and substantive. Most Sundays the children will join their parents in the sanctuary for the first part of the worship service, and then go to their class following Children’s Time. However, on the first (Communion) Sunday each month, children will begin in class and later join the congregation for Communion.

The UCC -- Past, Present, and Future

Please join me at 8:30 AM Sunday mornings beginning September 23rd for a class that will explore the UCC. We will start with the origins of the UCC and look at some of the hidden history that has made us the denomination we are. Then we will examine where the UCC is today, and finally take a look at the future direction of our denomination.
This class will be an excellent opportunity for those new to the UCC to learn about our unique denomination, and it will be a chance for long time members who might want to become more familiar with the history and future directions of the UCC to increase their knowledge.

   SUNDAY MORNING LIVE

Do you sometimes feel unsure as to how to react to the news of our world? No, this is not an antacid ad! Rather, this is an invitation to participate in “Sunday Morning Live” each Sunday at 11:15 in the Chapel, starting September 9th. The SML group will discuss current events and issues, how our faith influences our perspective on these issues, and how we as individuals and/or as a group might make a difference.
For more information, contact Chuck Holmgren (#245-5870).

  FIRST SUNDAY NIGHT SPIRITUAL MOVIES
“Pay It Forward” November 4th, 6:30 to 9:00 PM
“Pay it Forward” stars Helen Hunt, Kevin Spacey, and Haley Joe Osment, in a deeply profound film about belief, creativity, courage, hope, and possibility. A young boy’s class project is to “pay it forward” — rather than “paying back” favors others have done for him, he reaches out to others who’ve never done anything to touch his life —with only the request that they will respond by “paying it forward” to someone else. This is a fabulous film, that informs our hearts, minds, and spirits! Free Popcorn!
We’ll be in the comfy Gathering Space!
[AND...if you’d like to see last month’s special, “Peaceful Warrior,” that DVD will soon be in the Library to check out.]
