Deacons Report
You may have noticed a serene corner of the Gathering Space with a new
fountain. Next to the fountain you will see some polished stones. This is
the Deacons’ newest contribution to spiritual growth in our community of
faith. Take a moment to enjoy the fountain.
Choose a stone and say a
prayer for someone in need, a prayer of thanks, a prayer for yourself or
just a prayer to pray. Place the stone into the water as a symbol of your
prayer. Enjoy the experience while breathing deeply and relaxing.
Hopefully this will allow you to go on your way with a new feeling of
peace.

Respite Night
Our next Respite Night will be on Friday, November 2nd at 5:30 PM. It will
be carnival night so come prepared to play those games you liked as a kid
when the carnival came to town.
Our last event was a great success with lots of kids and lots of help. If
you can help out, please call Barb Harvey at 243-4509.

LIBRARY NEWS
If you have
visited the church library recently, you’ve noticed the new system of
displaying books. If you haven’t been there recently, come and see how the
various subjects are shelved. We hope this revised system of
classification will be extremely user-friendly. We envisioned a system
that seemed the simplest way for us to find a book we wanted, and hoped
all of you would find it equally helpful.
The categories that
appear where they have always been on the northeast wall are the reference
books, including Bibles, Biblical atlases, Bible dictionaries, etc. The
bookshelf on the east wall, which formerly held all the audiotapes and
DVD’s, now holds books about the Bible, God, and Jesus, while other tapes
and DVD’s have been moved to the last bookshelf on the south wall (near
the hallway door).
The first two rows of
shelves on the south wall hold books in such categories as faith, science
and faith, devotions, prayer, spiritual life, theology, church history,
world religions, mission, and Christian education. The next two rows
include categories such as: family, life passages, and physical health,
while the next row includes culture, peace and justice, psychoogy,
history, and religion and the arts.
Across the room, on the
north wall, the non-fiction and biographies are found, as well as the
fiction and large print books which are in their familiar places. The row
next to them contains the books on symbols, holidays and, on the bottom
shelf, a miscellaneous group of “tall books.”
The above is a brief look
at the main categories; there are more categories related to these also.
Come in, look over the new system and let us know what you think. (Please
remember to sign the card when you check out a book or tape, and put the
card in the front of the wooden box on the counter beside the card
catalog. Thank you.)
