TOWER CHIMES
A SOUND INVESTMENT--Quilt Fund-raiser for our FCUCC Sound System
For the next few weeks, Alice Elder (our
project Financial Coordinator) will have a table and the quilt
display-board set up in the Gathering Space from 9:30-10:00 AM, and
again after worship for about 20 minutes. You are encouraged to
look at the plans for the quilt, and select some portion of it that
speaks to you especially – you can then “purchase” that section
(your initials or full last name will be embroidered on it,
depending on the size of the item) as a way to help celebrate our
church, or to honor someone else. You may also buy multiple pieces
– to honor lots of people! Questions? Ask Alice, or the Quilt
Project Spokesperson, Anne Djokic.
Different-sized items on the quilt sell for different amounts,
starting at $5 and going up. The list of item-names, prices, and
the diagrams can help you figure out what sells for how much. Or,
Alice can tell you. Items that cost less than $50 must be paid for
at the time you select them. Items that cost more than that are
available in a form of silent auction – instructions are on the
board for how to “bid” on such items. The bid deadline for these
silent-auction items is 11:30 AM on Sunday, July 20th.
The quilt-sections will then be embroidered, assembled and
finished this summer by our fearless Quilt Team: Annie Albrethsen,
Carolyn Ramsey, Gail Mosher, Irene Phillips, Jean Yale, Kong Vong,
Marilee Moore, Pam Grout, and Ruth Edfast. We hope to have it ready
to dedicate by Fall Kick-Off Sunday! In the meantime, we’ll be
pursuing other avenues of fundraising for the sound system, and hope
to get our new sound system in place as well.
Remember – this is to benefit all of us with a new sound-system
that will greatly improve everyone’s ability to hear every part of
our worship service! If you’re reaching that age where people seem
to mumble more, you’ll especially appreciate it now – and if you
haven’t gotten there yet, you will, so invest in your own happy
hearing future! |

COMING NOW TO A PEW NEAR YOU!....An opportunity
for special giving to OCWM (Our Church’s Wider Mission)
The new envelopes are in the pews! Our
Church’s Wider Mission collections fund the ministries that are at the
heart of who we are as the United Church of Christ. It is the name we use
to describe the work we do beyond the local church through our Conference,
national ministries, and UCC-related institutions.
Until 2005, our church,
as do many others, used to give 10% of its offering to OCWM. This was cut
to 5% in order to balance our annual operating budget. This year it is 6%
and hopefully will continue to be increased,
An extra dollar or two
each week put in the SPECIAL OCWM pew envelopes will help increase our
OCWM giving. This is a painless way to help us strive toward the 10% we
were at a few years ago. |
